A way for cities to see how the IRA can support their climate action plans
Together with C40 Cities and Bloomberg Associates, Slipstream developed a methodology for cities to evaluate how the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) can help make their climate goals possible.
This approach aids city officials with evaluating the quantitative impacts of key provisions from the IRA that can accelerate and support their carbon-reduction strategies—or inspire new measures that make better use of the IRA's opportunities.
Using this methodology, we identified key provisions in the IRA that will help the City of Chicago meet its existing ambitious goals and increase its emissions reduction target from 62% to 67% by 2040. In May 2023 Chicago published an Addendum to its Climate Action Plan outlining the expected impacts of this analysis.
