Manufactured homes are a key part of our nation's housing stock—they often provide the best option for affordable housing, especially in rural areas. Keeping residents of manufactured homes comfortable is a goal of many weatherization programs. However, many retrofitting efforts fail to take into account the unique conditions of manufactured homes.
In a recent series of articles for the Building Performance Association, Slipstream building science specialist Bob Pfeiffer discussed several ways in which retrofits can address the special issues of manufactured homes. Bob's insights remind us that with the the right tools and knowledge, we can significantly improve performance, indoor air quality, and safety of these units and create better lives for manufactured home residents.
