City of Altoona Microgrid Feasibility Analysis: East Neighborhood Development Plan
Published inThe City of Altoona, Wisconsin, has been making concerted efforts to enhance its energy resilience and sustainability as part of its long-term development strategy.
The East Neighborhood is a planned mixed-use development designed to accommodate diverse housing options, vibrant open spaces, and neighborhood-scale commercial uses. The plan for the new development also emphasizes sustainability through measures such as energy-efficient building materials, renewable energy systems, and integrated green spaces.
While planning for the East Neighborhood, the city wanted to assess the feasibility of establishing a microgrid to ensure energy security, enable climate adaptation, and provide long-term economic benefits to residents. This study focused on developing three cost-effective microgrid scenarios to evaluate the costs and benefits associated with implementing a microgrid and establish clear roles and responsibilities for stakeholders.
