Residential Heat Pump Water Heater Performance in the Upper Midwest

Published in

The newest generation of heat pump water heaters (HPWHs) are a promising measure for energy and carbon reduction programs, but there are lingering concerns about their field performance and applicability in cold climates. Our team investigates this issue through a detailed monitoring of 9 residential HPWHs installed in partially conditioned basements and a survey of 81 HPWH rebate recipients in Michigan’s cold climate.
