Events Manager

This full-time position is in our Madison office.

The Project Manager (Meetings and Events) contributes to Slipstream’s mission by managing energy and environmental education projects. The Project Manager (Meetings and Events) collaborates with Slipstream’s content experts and education team to insure that the physical design and execution of Slipstream’s education experiences support attendee learning, networking and empowerment; align with best practices for sustainability in event management and drive high attendee satisfaction. This involves meeting design, client and stakeholder communications, onsite execution, and vendor and budget management.


  1. Manage all elements of meeting/event planning and logistics to meet business, client, customer satisfaction and learning objectives. Champion and advise on effective program design. Collaborate effectively with content and marketing expert team members as necessary.
  2. Coordinate with the education team to execute education programs and special events that support Slipstream’s mission and organizational strategy, business development and outreach.
  3. Develop and manage event budgets and simple project budgets. Budget management includes estimating and revising staff hours, facility, speaker and other expenses; estimating and revising sponsor, exhibitor and registration fee revenue; and forecasting.
  4. Negotiate facility, speaker and vendor contracts to reduce Slipstream risk. Oversee contracts to ensure compliance from initial contract execution through post-event wrap up. Incorporate green and sustainable practices into facilities contracts.
  5. Manage Slipstream-implemented expositions for exhibitor satisfaction and top line growth. Design and implement expos of fewer than 200 exhibits, including selling exhibit space.
  6. Conduct annual review of event sustainability and diversity / inclusion best practices and recommend changes for continuous improvement of Slipstream events. Review other best practices from both the meeting and event industry and the sustainability industry to recommend other continuous improvement.
  7. Collaborate with Slipstream marketing managers to ensure the necessary displays and materials are planned for and present at events.
  8. Provide the necessary event updates and information to stakeholders.
  9. Represent Slipstream at events, including public speaking.
  10. Track event KPI’s. Provide recommendations for event continuous improvement. Provide recommendations for major modifications to events, or whether specific events should be discontinued based on performance.
  11. These responsibilities are not all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.



1. Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Meeting and Event Management, Marketing or equivalent trade-off in related work experience.
2. Preferred: Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation or willing to pursue CMP certification with support from Slipstream
3. 3-5 years of event management work experience to include:

  • Implementation of all phases of event planning
  • Conduct analysis of event effectiveness
  • Handle multiple marketing events and projects simultaneously
  • Ensure critical deadlines are met
  • Conduct presentations for a variety of audiences

4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; public speaking experience a plus
5. Strong negotiation skills
6. Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite or comparable software

7. Travel (some overnight) required
